Film Grain Effect

There are many templates over the Net about this effect, so this here is my way of creating it. As you can see, this effect consists in some dots and lines that move on the horizontal, but also an appropriate background. Open the source file and you will discover that we used three layers for the effect ( ignore the first one), with the background picture on the last one. Look at the movie and you will notice that it darkens or lightens very fast. The light of the movie changes at every frame. We used the same technique as in the Text Effects section of this website so go back and read that one.

Next we will get to the main effect, the film grain effect which is located on the layer effect, by double clicking the Movie Clip located in that frame. This is very simple, in the first layer we have a movie clip with two layers, because we have two lines. Doesn't matter so much how you move them as long as they appear, disappear, move left to right or right to left. The second layer has a Movie Clip with 12 layers, each layer with a random distribution of dots. Just use the brush tool and click couple of times on the stage. Download this sample
